Salary: Estimate range is £32,000-£50,000, depending on experience
The role will involve being directly involved in the design, build and operations of innovative robotic optical systems, and will include:
Requirements assessment, and system design of ground-based and space-based optical systems
Getting hands on with hardware for rapid prototyping and testing of optical, mechanical and electronic components
Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers
Technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders

Person specification
Essential
Degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, or similar
Demonstrated experience with design, build and test of ground-based optical systems
Experience with rapid prototyping manufacturing techniques
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Desirable
Strong user of CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks)
Familiarity with ECSS standards
Experience with various types of optical systems/components such as telescopes, cameras, lasers, LIDAR, lenses, mirrors is highly desirable
Demonstrated experience with design, build and test of space-based optical systems
Experienced user of optical design software such as Zemax OpticStudio is desired but not essential
Experience working with institutional customers and academic partners
